Camino is a Berlin-based independent Non-Profit-Organisation. Camino works with clients and partners in civil society, politics, and public administration who aim to contribute to positive social change by promoting social and political participation. We implement projects with municipal, regional, national, and international scopes. Our evaluations, research, and trainings are participatory, resource-oriented, and strictly directed towards the interests and needs of the participants. At Camino, we believe that the value of our work lies in its usefulness and the support it can provide to our clients and partners.
Founded in 1995, Camino continuously conducts research and consulting projects that focus on social cohesion and participation, democracy and human rights, violence prevention and conflict management, and preventing political, religious and social radicalisation. With a particular emphasis on social work and urban studies, our activities include practice-oriented research, evaluation, and scientific support for model projects and programmes; development and implementation of training measures; facilitation of planning processes.
Currently, Camino conducts a number of projects relevant to the fields of urban security, crime prevention and social innovation, among which:
– As the operator of Berlin’s Violence Prevention Unit, Camino monitors different forms of urban violence such as youth delinquency, violent extremism or gender-based violence, and supports the senate in evaluating and improving its prevention programmes.
– As leader of the research project ‘Resilient Social Spaces and Prevention of Radicalisation’, we research socio-spatial factors of resilience among youth in inner-city neighbourhoods and develop recommendations on how to better prevent radicalisation.
– As scientific counsellors and evaluators, we accompany programmes such as the innovation fund of the federal programme ‘Demokratie leben’ (living democracy) or the project ‘BROTHERS – Gewaltprävention bei (geflüchteten) Jugendlichen’ (BROTHERS – Preventing violence among (refugee) youth).
Camino has led and contributed to a number of EU-funded projects in the fields of youth empowerment, prevention of youth delinquency, victim support and victim-offender mediation, and migrant inclusion and equal opportunities in sport.
